GM will announce the sale of Opel on Thursday.
General Motors recently has been finalizing the deal to sell the Hummer brand to China’s Sichuan Tengzhong Heavy Industrial Machine Company. It now appears that Opel will likely be following suit as GM continues the downsizing of their total brands.

DeLorean Motor Company's render of the 2011 Solstice
When general Motors came out with the Kappa platform for their new rear-drive roadsters, they were a big hit at the time. Therefore they shared the platform across three of their models. However, those models, which are Pontiac, Saturn, and Opel, are being phased out of the companies brands. However, another company looks to be saving this platform from the history books.

The Opel Astra
Last week we reported that General Motors was close to an agreement to sell the prized Opel brand to Magna International. This morning now, the GM Board of Directors announced that it has closed the deal with them to sell majority ownership.

It appears that General Motors is beginning to narrow down on which company will purchase the prestige Opel brand name. So far it is down to two companies: RHJ International and the highest bidder Magna.
