Car News – GM to spend $230M on Chevy Volt, Cruze Plants

General Motors announced that they will be spending $230 million on four different plants in the Flint, Michigan area to support the production of the upcoming Chevy Volt plug-in vehicle.  The money will also be used to help build the 2011 Chevy Cruze, which is also made from a similar platform as the Volt.

Car News – GM to announce Opel sale on Thursday

GM will announce the sale of Opel on Thursday.

General Motors recently has been finalizing the deal to sell the Hummer brand to China’s Sichuan Tengzhong Heavy Industrial Machine Company.  It now appears that Opel will likely be following suit as GM continues the downsizing of their total brands.

General Motors is expected to outpace the overall automotive market in China.

General Motors has had better days.  A bankruptcy has hit the automaker hard and has been forced to restructure it’s entire company.  However, there is some good news after all of this, and it comes from China where GM has seen an unbelievable growth this year and expects it to continue well into 2010.

Car News – Ford and UAW tentative agreement on labor contract

The United Auto Workers (UAW) are planning to present the changes to the existing four year contract that they have with Ford Motor Company to the National Ford Council today.  Details have not been released, but the new agreement, if approved, will go to a member vote.

Car News – GM Recalls 10,000 Pontiac Vibes

Pontiac Vibe is being recalled.

General Motors is recalling 10,119 Pontiac Vibe hatchbacks over an issue with the brake vacuum components that can freeze in low temperatures.  The recall covers Vibes sold in the Northern 19 states.  This comes not long after the iconic brand has been discontinued.
