Confirmed today by a board member, automakers Chrysler Group and Fiat SpA are working together to develop an electric car.  This comes not long after former Chrysler CEO Bob Nardelli unveiled several plans for electric and gas efficient vehicles before the company files for bankruptcy protection and was purchased by Fiat SpA.

According to Peter Fong, Chrysler brand CEO and head of sales for all Chrysler Group brands, the Fiat 500 will be sold in the U.S. with Chrysler handling distribution.  However there is going to be a limited volume available to start with.

Chrysler and Nissan announced that they are canceling their 2008 deals to build vehicles for each other.  The automakers announced this on Wednesday afternoon.
