Volvo announced plans to bring a line-up of diesel and plug-in hybrids to North America.

Volvo announced today that they have plans to release fuel-efficient diesels and plug-in hybrids into the North American market.  This was confirmed by CEO Doug Speck.

Although the German automaker has not even released their new 5-Series GT yet, it seems to have plans to make a GT version of their popular 3-Series vehicles, which currently looks to be the 335i.  Although unconfirmed, BMW says it is planning to create a cargo-hauling small brother based on the next generation 3-Series.

As auto makers are being forced to comply with the 35.5 mpg regulation the U.S. set for all new vehicles sold, BMW of North America CEO Jim O’Donnell says he believes the popular German automaker could sell more than 100,000 of their new line of 4-cylinder powered vehicles.

BMW seems to still be pushing around the idea of a environmentally friendly vehicle, and it appears that their new supercar, the BMW Z10, may just be that car.  Designed in answer to Audi’s release of the R8, this new monster is expected to be a mid-mounted engine vehicle and more usable space than a Porsche 911.
