They are definitely for "show" (sound) they make the car sound "fast" because stupid people confuse sound with speed. The fart can mufflers as you call them, do give you a performance upgrade. After Doing a cat back install on my car, with a high flow cat, 2.5" straight pipe, to a "fart can muffler" dyno showed that I got about 17hp out of it. Also my mpg went from about 25 city to close to 35. I do agree about the spoilers, as most imports are FWD and adding down force will do the opposite of what you want if you are on anything but a drag strip. So in order for them to help with cornering fast, you would have to mount them on the hood. So just wait until we start seeing that lol. Just a little tip for the future.
