Chevrolet’s line-up of vehicles has always been the biggest seller out of all the General Motor’s brand of cars.  However, according to the brand chief, there is plans set to make the iconic bowtie account for 70% of all sales for GM.

“As Pontiac goes away, Saturn goes away, Chevrolet has to step up. That’s clear,” said Brent Dewar, Chevrolet’s Brand Chief. “The 70 percent target is the right kind of number we need to work on.”

As GM’s volume brand, Chevrolet will increase it’s share in the automaker’s market as it decreases it’s brand of cars from eight brands to just four.

Chevrolet is “going to take on a larger role as we go from eight brands to four,” Dewar said.  “Here in North America we are going to be responsible for 70 percent of volumes.”

In 2009, Chevy has been the top brand in North America for GM, accounting for 60 percent of all sales for the automaker.  This is up 54 percent since 2002.  The reason may be in part to a fresh line-up of vehicles and the declining sales of Saturn and Pontiac.
