Toyota recalled 3.8 million vehicles for over the floormat design, which is said to be the largest safety recall ever.

Last month, Toyota recalled 3.8 million vehicles over the floormat design.

Toyota has a temporary fix for recall that started last month after a family of four was killed in an accident involving the gas pedal getting jammed due to the design of the floor mats in the vehicle.  The fix is to attach the driver’s side floor mats to the metal seat rails with zip ties.

The Japanese automaker recalled over 3.8 million vehicles due to the floor mat.  Dealers are also instructed to attach warning labels to the mats telling drivers not to stack two floor mats on top of each other.

“We have reviewed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration what we’re calling a semi-permanent floor mat installation process, and we’re providing these instructions to our dealers,” said Toyota spokesman Brian Lyons.

“This allows dealers to continue selling and delivering both new and used vehicles.”
