
Toyota recalled 3.8 million vehicles for over the floormat design, which is said to be the largest safety recall ever for the company.
Toyota has issued it’s largest safety recall ever recorded for the company. The floor may could wedge itself against the gas pedal and cause unintended acceleration. This comes after a fatal accident, killing a family a four.
The mat design was found to be the entire cause of the fatal accident that filled the family that was driving a Lexus ES 350 loaner car. Inside the vehicle, the floor mat became lodged against the gas pedal which caused a rapid acceleration of speeds around 120mph before it clipped an SUV and then went over an embankment, bursting into flames.
In a statement from Toyota: “A stuck open accelerator pedal may result in very high vehicle speeds and make it difficult to stop the vehicle, which could cause a crash, serious injury or death”.
The recall covers all of the following vehicle years and models:
- 2007 – 2010 Toyota Camry
- 2005 – 2010 Toyota Avalon
- 2004 – 2009 Toyota Pruis
- 2005 – 2010 Toyota Tacoma
- 2007 – 2010 Toyota Tundra
- 2007 – 2010 Lexus ES 350
- 2006 – 2010 Lexus IS 250
- 2006 – 2010 Lexus IS 350
