Mazda Kiyora Concept
Mazda just revealed information at the Tokyo Auto Show about their new clean engines and the Kiyora Concept. They have plans to use these advanced technologies to increase their average fuel economy across their line by 30% between 2008 and 2015.
One of the engines is the SKY-G, which is a direct injection gasoline engine. Mazda has said it will not only improve the torque from their previous 2.0 liter MZR powertrain, but will also have a 15 percent increase in mileage. They have not said if the SKY-G will make it to production, but is rumored to be put in the Mazda3 sedan for North American sale. It has not been announced yet how much horsepower the engine will have or the estimated fuel economy.
The next engine announced was the SKY-D, which is a new clean diesel. Like the SKY-G, Mazda promises greater power and better fuel economy. The engine will have a 2-stage turbocharger, redesigned engine block and piezo injectors. Mazda anticipates the fuel economy to be 20 percent better than the current 2.2-liter diesel it currently offers.
To top it off, Mazda released information and new pictures of the Kiyora Concept. Powered by a new 1.3-liter direct injection engine, the Kiyora will travel about 16 miles per liter of fuel. That equals out to a astonishing 75mpg. It will also feature the new Mazda SKY-Drive 6-speed automatic transmission, regenerative braking, great aerodynamics, and i-stop. It also weighs 100kg less than any other car that Mazda currently makes.
So, it appears that Mazda is making good leaps in it’s technology to meet the new world market in high-efficiency vehicles.
