The RD7 will based slightly off the original RD6 Concept pictured above.
Jaguar is looking to create competition for the the Audi A5 Sportback and BMW 5-Series GT with a new five door coupe. Codenamed the RD7, it will replace the current X-Type in Jaguar’s lineup of vehicles.
The RD7 will be based slightly off the 2003 RD6 Concept. Originally planned for either a 3-door or 5-door, it was finally decided that a 5-door was more viable. It is planned to be rear wheel drive, and powered by a 2.7L diesel V6, although you can expect that Jaguar might also plan a energy efficient gas or diesel engine as well.
The lines of the car are very sleek and great looking. The suicide rear doors add a nice accent, along with the rear hatch that will swing open which allows for decent room in the back, although it has a very low roof.
Currently Jaguar has a planned date as far back as 2013 for the RD7, due to it’s concentration on the new line of sports cars it’s offering soon.
