DeLorean Motor Company's render of the 2011 Solstice

When general Motors came out with the Kappa platform for their new rear-drive roadsters, they were a big hit at the time.  Therefore they shared the platform across three of their models.  However, those models, which are Pontiac, Saturn, and Opel, are being phased out of the companies brands.  However, another company looks to be saving this platform from the history books.

One of the weirdest rumors floating around right now is with the DeLorean Motor Company planning to purchase the platform away from GM and putting it back into production re-branded as a DMC.  The company’s management has reported to recently been in talks with General Motors about the platform and have recently acquired a Pontiac Solstice GXP Coupe to consider it close up.

Now, don’t expect some weird “Back to the Future” vehicle coming from DMC with a flux-capacitor or Mr. Fusion.  It is expected that this will be a high-end roadster that may hit the markets as soon as 2011 if the rumors are true.

    Great Scott!

All we need to do now is figure out how to get the 1.21 gigawatts into the flux capacitors and still keep it “green”
