Germany has almost 1,500 electric cars on the road today and expect this to be a common picture everywhere soon.

Germany, the home of the autobahn and some of the fastest cars in the market.  However, the German government apparently is thinking more green and have launched a campaign to promote electric cars and have at least 1 million on their roads by 2020.

“It is our aim to make Germany into the market leader for electric mobility,” Economy Minister Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg said after the German Cabinet approved the plan.  He also said that it is an ambitious goal, but one that is completely possible.

The plan is take money from their economic stimulus package they announced earlier this year and put $705 million into the program.  Some of this money will be going for examining test regions on how to introduce them, research on batteries to power the electric cars, ensuring German experts are trained in the technology and making the production of these vehicles to be done right in Germany.
