Not even a month after the stunning Ferrari 458 Italia was unveiled at the Frankfurt Auto Show, it was confirmed today that Ferrari is working on a open-top Spyder version of this upcoming car.

Luca di Montezemolo, Ferrari’s Chairman confirmed that this car is being developed right now, however it won’t be built until 2 years after the hardtop version is released this coming January, which means you’ll have to wait until 2012 before you can get your hands on one of these.

While Ferrari is using a folding hard-top roof for its most recent California model, the 458 Italia Spyder is likely to use a lightweight soft-top roof seen on the F430 Spyder and high-performance Scuderia 16M.  Other than the roof and some chassis reinforcements, the 458 Italia Spyder should be identical to the hardtop version, which means power will come from a 4.5-liter V8 engine outputting 570hp and 400 lbs-ft. of torque, with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission.
